Mattos Engelberg Announces New Partners in Arbitration, Litigation and Dispute Resolution Areas

Mattos Engelberg Advogados is pleased to introduce the new partners João Carlos Areosa and Felipe Moraes.

JOÃO CARLOS AREOSA has been holding a PhD in Civil Procedural Law from Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco (FADUSP), also has a LL.M. from The University of Chicago Law School, with an emphasis on domestic and international arbitration and complex litigation, a Master of Civil Procedures Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica of São Paulo (PUC-SP), and a Bachelor of Laws from Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC-Rio).

Mr. Areosa has over 10 years of experience in Dispute Resolution before national and international arbitration chambers, at all levels of the Brazilian Judiciary and before administrative bodies, notably the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) and the Central Bank. These disputes primarily involve corporate and capital market issues, as well as contractual and commercial disputes between important players in the Brazilian market, representing clients in various industries, such as banking, finance, pension funds, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure.

In addition, he is Coordinator of the Course “Corporate Law and Capital Markets: Material and Procedural Law” of the São Paulo Bar Association – AASP, Professor and Speaker in Postgraduation Courses and Author of articles in collections, newspapers and specialized magazines.

FELIPE MORAES has been holding a PhD in Commercial Law from Faculdade de Direito do Largo de São Francisco (FADUSP) and has a Master’s Degree in Private Law from Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Minas Gerais. He attended U.S. Business Law Academy at Columbia Law School, the Mediation Advocacy Training – ICFML, the International Business Mediation Workshop CPR – Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution and also of the PIDA Advanced Training on International Arbitration – ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Mr. Moraes has been working on arbitration and dispute resolution matters for more than 10 years, participating in arbitration proceedings and business mediations involving construction and infrastructure; energy; PPP and concession contracts; and corporate disputes. Member of the Arbitrator’s list of several institutions and Professor of the Postgraduation Course of IBMEC. Vice President of CAMARB – Chamber of Mediation and Corporate Arbitration – Brazil, in São Paulo.

With the joining of the new partners, Mattos Engelberg Advogados reinforces its Arbitration, Litigation and Dispute Resolution areas. The firm has now 26 partners.
