Mattos Engelberg adds firepower to antitrust offering

8 . October . 2019

Brazilian firm Mattos Engelberg Advogados has strengthened its competition department with a lateral hire from Motta Fernandes Advogados.

Cecilia Vidigal Monteiro de Barros, 59, joined the firm on 16 September. She takes the firm’s partner count to 26.

She focuses her practice on mergers and acquisitions, infrastructure projects and public procurement. She also has an energy practice.

Barros is chair of the regulatory committee of the Brazilian Institute of Energy Law and co-vice chair of the international construction projects committee of the International Bar Association.

She joined Motta Fernandes in 2011, after it was created following a partner split from now-defunct Xavier, Bernardes, Bragança Sociedade de Advogados. Partner and board member Pedro Schiesser Bernardini says Barros left on good terms and that the firm wishes her a successful career.

Bernardini confirms that his firm is in talks with lawyers to restock its antitrust and compliance practices.

Motta Fernandes now counts 33 partners in total.
